During these extraordinary times the musical world has had to adapt to the reality of COVID 19 being an ever present threat. This brings both challenges and opportunities, none more so than for professionals to have time for professional development and artistic exploration. In addition, whilst there are no substitutes for live music-making (its social and health benefits are difficult to replicate), there is still an opportunity to congregate virtually and produce work. Over the past few months I have been able to take part in regular webinars on a variety of topics from choral conducting to interpretation of symphonic works, lecture recitals, presentations and webinars with some of the worlds finest musicians. In addition the Spheres of Singing Conference 2020 presented by the University of Glasgow included an inspirational array of lectures, recitals, masterclasses, presentations & open discussion fora on a wide range of subjects from Fashion Opera through to Community Music Projects.
I continue to engage with the latest advice from the government and industry bodies such as The Incorporated Society of Musicians & Association of British Choral Directors, preparing myself and those I work with for the opportunities and challenges as we move away from lockdown.
I will be posting on this page some lock down recordings as well as sources of information and activities I have been engaging with over the past few months. I do hope you will find many of them thought provoking and useful.
